Health talks on avian flu for Indonesian community (with photo)
*********************************************************

In view of the recent human cases of avian flu in Indonesia, public health professionals from the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health today (July 2) gave two health talks to about 500 Indonesian workers to remind them to be vigilant about the disease.

The talks were held in the Kowloon Mosque and a centre in North Point.  Leaflets in Indonesian language entitled "Avian Flu fact sheet" and "What you need to know to prepare for an influenza pandemic - Tips for Foreign Domestic Helpers" were distributed to the audience.

"The event is part of the CHP's efforts to arouse public awareness of the threat of avian flu.

"As the Indonesian community in Hong Kong is close-knit, an event of this kind can help disseminate health messages within members of the community," a CHP spokesman said.

For more information on prevention of avian influenza, people can visit the CHP's website http://www.chp.gov.hk.
