The Director of Home Affairs will declare by notice in the Gazette tomorrow (June 23) that the office of Mr Tang Lai-ming, an elected member of the Eastern District Council (Tsui Wan Constituency), has become vacant.
In accordance with section 26(b) of the District Councils Ordinance (Cap 547), an elected member's office becomes vacant if the member resigns in accordance with section 25 of the District Councils Ordinance.
Under section 25 of the District Councils Ordinance, an elected member may at any time resign from office as an elected member by giving written notice of resignation to the Designated Officer.
The office of Mr Tang Lai-ming became vacant on June 16, 2006, following his resignation and a by-election will be arranged by the Registration and Electoral Office within three months.
