Three employers ordered to pay MPF
**********************************

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (June 12) obtained two orders for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at around $290,000 against two employers in the District Court. MPFA today also pursued a claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $1,000 on behalf of an employee, who was owed MPF contributions by the employer.

The District Court today issued judgments against two employers, namely, Fung Fat Shipping Company Limited and Easy Holding Limited trading as The Kong Jewellery Company. The defendants were ordered to pay the MPFA the sums of $226,910.34 and $70,314.94 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to four and one employees of the defendants respectively.

At the tribunal hearing today, the defendant, Tung Leung Construction Engineering Co Limited, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered the employer to pay the MPFA the sum of $1049, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The amounts -- awarded at both the District Court and the tribunal -- will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court and the tribunal further awarded payment of $930 for each District Court case and $200 for the Tribunal case as costs in respect of the claims.
