33 private properties receive Best Landscape Awards (With photos)
**********************************************************

Eleven Gold Awards and 22 Merit Awards were given today (May 26) at the prize presentation ceremony for the 2006 Best Landscape Awards for Private Property Development.

Organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), the event recognises private properties for their good efforts in greening, and enhances the public's green consciousness.

The 2006 Best Landscape Awards for Private Property Development aims to improve the living environment of private properties by outstanding landscape design and horticultural maintenance.

The Best Landscape Awards were launched in 2004. This year, the awards' second year, the response to the competition has been overwhelming with an almost two-fold increase in the number of properties nominated for the event.

The standard of the nominated entries is also high. The projects show that professionals, architects and landscape architects have added green elements to the properties in the planning and development stages of the projects to bring harmony to the environment. Furthermore, the property management and maintenance professionals have also taken good care of these landscapes to offer quality greening features.

Officiating guests at the ceremony today at the Hong Kong Central Library Exhibition Gallery were the Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs, Mrs Carrie Lam; the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Ms Anissa Wong; Patron of Institute of Horticulture (Hong Kong), Sir David Akers-Jones; President of Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects, Mr Leslie Chan; Dr Paul Ho of Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors; Vice-President of Hong Kong Institute of Architects, Ms Anna Kwong; Chairman of Professional Green Building Council, Mr Kenneth Chan; and President of Hong Kong Association of Property Management Companies, Mr Suen Kwok-lam.

The 2006 Best Landscape Award for Private Property Development is organised by the LCSD, and co-organised by the Home Affairs Department, the Buildings Department, the Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects, the Institute of Horticulture (Hong Kong), the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors, the Professional Green Building Council and the Hong Kong Association of Property Management Companies.

The competition is exclusively for local private residential properties or non-residential properties. It is divided into three categories: High-density Residential Property, Low-density Residential Property, and Non-residential Property. In each category, there are two awards, namely Soft Landscape Design and Horticultural Maintenance. Each award is also divided into three classes: Properties up to 10 years of age, Properties between 11 and 20 years of age, and Properties over 20 years of age.
