Notification of human avian flu case in Sichuan Province received

    The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health received notification from the Ministry of Health today (April 27) confirming a human case of avian influenza H5N1 in Sichuan Province.

     A CHP spokesman said the patient was an eight-year-old girl who developed fever and pneumonia on April 16.  She is now under treatment in a local hospital.

     The CHP will maintain close liaison with the Ministry of Health to obtain more information on the case.
