HWFB on import of Mainland chickens
***********************************

A spokesman for the Health, Welfare and Food Bureau today (April 21) reiterated that in the face of the threat of an avian influenza outbreak, there was a need for the Government to continue to adopt a cautious attitude and maintain the number of imported live chickens from the Mainland at around 20,000 per day.

The spokesman added that the bureau had met with members of the live poultry trade this afternoon, listening to their request for an increase in the number of imported live chickens from the Mainland during Tuen Ng Festival.

"The Government would consider their request after assessing the relevant risk and communicating with the Mainland," the spokesman said.
