Notification of human avian flu case in Hubei Province received

    The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health received notification from the Ministry of Health confirming a human case of avian influenza H5N1 in Wuhan of Hubei Province.

     A CHP spokesman today (April 18) said the patient was a 21-year-old man who developed fever and pneumonia on April 1. He is under treatment in a local hospital.  His condition is serious.

     CHP is maintaining close liaison with the Ministry of Health to obtain more information on the case.
