Action taken against rest day breaches
**************************************

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) today (April 10) reminded operators of live poultry retail outlets to observe Rest Day conditions or risk having their licences/tenancies cancelled or terminated.

The appeal was made after FEHD officers today acted on a complaint and found a fresh provision shop (FPS) at 27 Mercury Street, North Point keeping live poultry on a Rest Day.

Forty-one live poultry, including chickens and pigeons, had been surrendered by the FPS for disposal.

According to the licensing conditions and tenancy of live poultry outlets, no live poultry shall be kept or stored at the premises on a Rest Day. FPSs and stalls must also suspend business to carry out thorough cleaning and disinfection on that day.

"As the keeping of live poultry by the concerned FPS is a breach of Rest Day conditions, the department will consider cancelling its FPS licence," an FEHD spokesman said.

He stressed that failure to comply with Rest Day conditions could lead to immediate cancellation of fresh provision shop licences or termination of market stall tenancies.
