HK Children's Symphony Orchestra to play additional concert
***********************************************************

The Hong Kong Children's Symphony Orchestra will play an additional concert after tickets for their concerts on April 22 and 23 sold out.

The extra performance will be held at 8pm on Sunday, April 23, at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall. The concert is part of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department's "Family Fiesta" series.

Three young guest musicians, Yu Zhengyang, Lam Che-ho (both violin solo) and Wong Wai-yin (piano solo), will join the Hong Kong Children's Symphony Orchestra for the concert. Under the batons of Dr Yip Wai-hong and Grace Yu, the talented musicians will play Beethoven's Overture to "Egmont"; Vieuxtemps' "Violin Concerto in A Minor, Op. 37"; Sarasate's "Introduction & Tarantella, Op. 43"; Tchaikovsky's "Melody, Op. 42" and popular concertos "Yellow River" and "Butterfly Lovers" with the orchestra.

The Hong Kong Children's Symphony Orchestra was established by Dr Yip Wai-hong in 1996. Members, aged from seven to 16, are recruited through highly competitive open auditions.

In 1997, the orchestra successfully held its inaugural concert and has organised an annual concert since then with critical acclaim. Among the talented young musicians invited from the Mainland are Lu Wei, Yang Tianwa, Yang Xiaoyu, Shun Wenyu, Zhang Haochen, Zuo Zhang and Tang Yun.

The orchestra was invited to perform concerts in Bangkok as part of the birthday celebrations for King Bhumibol Adulyadej in 2001 and for the 2nd International Children's Choral Festival 2005 (Asia Region).
