A cluster of HIV cases in MSM community reported
************************************************

In response to media enquiries concerning the rise of HIV infection in the MSM (Men having Sex with Men) community, a spokesman for the Department of Health said a cluster of 20 HIV cases was shown to have similar gene sequencing between November 2003 and November 2005.

Preliminary investigation has so far revealed that these cases might be linked and the transmission might have been caused by unprotected sex.

Those affected were believed to have had multiple sex partners, and participated in sex activities arranged through the internet.

The spokesman said anyone who wished to seek advice on their risk behaviour might call the AIDS hotline 2780 2211 during office hours.

"To prevent HIV infection, people are reminded to use condoms for safer sex and to avoid unprotected sex," he said.
