Notification of human avian flu case in Hunan received

    The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health received notification today (February 10) from the Ministry of Health confirming a human case of avian influenza H5N1 in Hunan Province.

     A CHP spokesman said the patient was a 20-year-old woman who developed fever and pneumonia on January 27. She died on February 4.

     The CHP will maintain close liaison with the Ministry of Health to obtain more information on the case.
