The Committee on Teachers' Work holds pre-meeting

The following is issued on behalf of the Committee on Teachers' Work:

     The Committee on Teachers' Work today (January 27) held a pre-meeting as the first step to map out its way forward to look into the issue of teachers' work and make recommendations for improvement.

     At the pre-meeting, the Chairman of the Committee, Professor Edmond Ko, along with committee members met members of school councils, teacher associations, school heads, teachers as well as academics and professionals from related fields.

     "We understand that both the school sector and the general public have high expectation of the committee. We pledge that we will look into teachers' work from an independent perspective and make recommendations to the Education and Manpower Bureau as soon as practical," Professor Ko said.

     "The committee will focus on issues related to teachers' work at the school level and will seek every opportunity to meet with members of the education sector, teachers and school heads in particular, including inviting them to join an advisory group under the committee."

     He called on the whole education sector to support the work of the committee and looked forward to continuous exchanges through various channels in the coming months.
