The Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food, Dr York Chow, will attend the International Pledging Conference on Avian and Human Pandemic Influenza in Beijing on Wednesday (January 18).
The conference is co-sponsored by the Central Government, the European Commission and the World Bank in close co-ordination with the World Health Organisation (WHO), Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) and World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) with a view to evaluating the capital and technical need of relevant countries and regions for bird flu prevention and control, mobilising fund raising efforts of all parties, and establishing fund management and coordination mechanism.
Dr Chow will take part in the ministerial meeting on January 18. He will take the opportunity to meet the health ministers of countries participating in the conference.
He will leave for Beijing tomorrow afternoon (January 17) and return to Hong Kong on Thursday.
