The Government announced today (January 12) the appointment of the Hon. Andrew Leung Kwan-yuen as the Chairman of the Vocational Training Council (VTC).
The Secretary for Education and Manpower, Professor Arthur KC Li welcomed the appointment. He said, ¡§The Hon Andrew Leung has been serving on the VTC as a Member since 1998. He has been very committed to his service in the VTC and made significant contributions. I look forward to his giving continuous support and leading the VTC in this coming term.¡¨
Professor Li also welcomed the following re-appointments or appointments ¡V
* Mr Clement Chen Cheng-jen is re-appointed as Deputy Chairman;
* Mr Roy Chung Chi-ping is re-appointed as Member;
* Dr Law Song-seng is re-appointed as Member;
* Dr Harry Lee Nai-shee is appointed as Member;
* Mr Stanley Lau Chin-ho as Member; and
* Mr Adrian Li Man-kiu as Member.
All the above appointments or re-appointments are for two years, from January 1, 2006 to December 31, 2007.
Professor Li thanked Mr Yeung Kai-yin, the outgoing Chairman of the VTC, who had led the Council for eight years since January 1998.
"Under Mr Yeung's leadership, the VTC has successfully introduced various strategic reforms which make it a proactive and effective vocational education and training body that meets the changing needs of our industries. He has made distinguished contribution in manpower training and development in Hong Kong. I would like to express my gratitude to all Mr Yeung has done for the Council over his eight years of service as Chairman," he added.
Professor Li also expressed his gratitude towards Dr Ng Tat-lun, outgoing Deputy Chairman and Mrs Eleanor Ling, outgoing Member of the VTC.

The VTC was established in 1982 with a mission to provide and promote a cost-effective and comprehensive system of vocational education and training to meet the demands of economy. Under the VTC, pre-employment and in-service education and training are provided by the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE), VTC School of Business and Information Systems (SBI), its training and development centres, Youth College and skills centres for people with disabilities.
