Notification of human avian flu case

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health was notified today (January 9) by the Ministry of Health confirming a human case of avian influenza H5N1 involving a six-year-old boy in Hunan Province.
A CHP spokesman said the boy developed fever and respiratory symptoms on December 24, 2005. He is now under treatment in a local hospital.
The CHP will maintain close liaison with the Ministry of Health to obtain more information on the case.
