Police appeal to Sai Kung residents to secure their homes properly

    Police today (December 19) appeal to residents of Sai Kung to properly secure their homes following a surge of burglaries in the division.

     From January to November this year, a monthly average of 12 burglaries were reported in Sai Kung.  The figure in December so far has already reached 14.

     In these cases, more than $340,000 worth of property has been stolen.  They are mainly portable items with resale value such as jewellery, mobile phones, camera, notebook computers and cash.

     Those burglaries occurred in December are at villages including Tai Po Tsai, Pak Sha Wan, Nam Wai, Hing King Shek, Tai Wan, Wong Chuk Shan, Tsam Chuk Wan and Sha Ha.

     Police appeal to residents of Sai Kung to properly secure their homes and offer the following tips:

- Doors and windows should lock properly.
- Extra locks and sensor lighting can help deter burglars.
- Burglar alarm is the best method to protect their families and property.
- As 90 per cent of the stolen items were taken from living rooms or hallways, Police advise people to place valuables in their bedrooms at night.
