Responding to the comment that the Police should not have arrested the 900 protestors on December 17 evening, a Police spokesman said that such comments were grossly unfair and were not based on any sustainable known facts.
The attacks by protestors on Police cordon lines during Saturday night's disturbance in Wan Chai were the result of premeditated planning.
Such condemnable acts deserved no condonation. The Police have acted with considerable resolve in restoring order and in discharging their lawful duties.
Fifty-six Police officers suffered injuries in maintaining law and order. The fact that order was restored within a few hours demonstrated the effective Police planning.
