*******************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Tai Po District Council:

The Tai Po Civic Education Committee today (December 3) held a prize presentation ceremony for a wish-making card design competition at Lam Tsuen, Tai Po.

The design competition was sponsored by the Tai Po District Council. It aimed to spread the tree conservation message and to promote civic education to foster a sense of belonging among students. The Tai Po Civic Education Committee received 179 design entries and made 20,000 wish-making cards based on the winning design. Starting from today until January 22 next year, these cards will be distributed to visitors free-of-charge for them to make wishes at the Wishing Tree at Lam Tsuen during weekends and public holidays.

Meanwhile, the Tai Po District Office has already set up four Chinese-style wishing racks near to the Wishing Tree. Another rack which features the 12 signs from Chinese horoscope will be added before the Lunar New Year. To step up awareness about tree conservation, the Tai Po District Office has installed an exhibition box which shows a withered branch of the Wishing Tree. Notices and banners have also been put up to urge visitors to place wishing plates on the racks rather than throwing them onto the tree.
