Starting today (December 3), passengers who take four City Bus or New World First Bus routes or who take the ferry at the First Ferry Services Pier 5 in Central will have a new artistic experience.
This is thanks to the "Mobile Art Expedition" -- a partnership project of the Art Promotion Office (APO) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, New World First Bus Services Limited (NWFB), New World First Ferry Services Limited (NWFF) and Citybus Limited. As with the successful "Mobile Art Gallery" in 2002 and "Gallery Ferry" in 2003, this project aims to bring local visual arts to the public, enhancing the city's cultural identity.
Launching the "Mobile Art Expedition" today (December 3) at Victoria Park were the Deputy Director (Culture) of LCSD, Mr Chung Ling-hoi, Vice-Chairman of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, Dr Peter Wong King-keung; and Vice-Chairman of Citybus Limited, the NWFB and the NWFF, Mr Tsang Yam-pui. They also presented awards to participating artists.
The "Mobile Art Expedition" through an open competition under the theme, "Diary of Hong Kong", received 116 entries, from which 27 artworks were selected for the Bus Compartment category and 14 for the Ferry Pier category.
Reproductions of the 27 winning entries will be on display for six months inside nine bus compartments of the NWFB and Citybus Limited routes. The bus routes are as follows:
