Zheng music to grace the city again

    The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will next month present The Zheng Music of Guangdong Regions, the second concert of the "Chinese Regional Zheng Music Series".

     The performance will be held at 8pm on Sunday, January 15, 2006, at the Cultural Activities Hall of Tsuen Wan Town Hall and on Monday, January 16, at the Theatre of the Hong Kong City Hall.

     Zheng recitalists Lin Maogen, Gao Baijian, Rao Ningxin and Chen Junhui, together with Yehu player Lin Jiheng will showcase an array of Chiuchow, Hakka and Cantonese zheng solo and ensemble works, including As the Wild Geese Fly South; Xiao-Liang-Zhou; The Spirit of Du Yu; Dan-Dian-Tou and Luan-Cha-Hua; Orioles Singing among the Billowing Willows and Relishing in the Spring Breeze.

     The series also includes Zheng Music of Henan and Yanbian (December 10 and 11) and Zheng Music of Mongolia and Zhejiang (March, 2006).

     Tickets priced at $120 for Tsuen Wan Town Hall and $90 and $150 for City Hall and are now available at URBTIX outlets, while senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients may have 50% off (limited quotas for students and CSSA recipients on a first-come, first-served basis). A 10% discount applies to Friends of LCSD performing venues. There will be a maximum of 15% off for a single purchase of different programmes in the series.      Also, an exhibition, Arts of Zheng ¡V Guangdong Regions, will be held from December 16 to January 16 at the foyer, 2/F, Low Block, Hong Kong City Hall, and from December 23 to January 15 at the foyer, Tsuen Wan Town Hall. Admission is free.
