The Education and Manpower Bureau (EMB) will hold two popular science lectures on China's Development in Aerospace Technology tomorrow (December 3). Over 2,000 students and teachers have enrolled in the lectures.
An EMB spokesman said, "The recent three-day visit of the Shenzhou VI Manned Space Flight Mission Delegation has deeply impressed the local community and the academia. Taking the opportunity, the EMB has arranged related activities to promote science and technology education. This serves to enhance students' understanding about the aerospace technology development in our country.
"We have invited Senior Fellow Long Le-hao (Chief Designer of the rocket system in the China's Spacecraft of the Manned Space Flight Project), Professor Wu Dian-lian (Chief Engineer of spacecrafts and satellites production in the Manned Space Flight Project), Professor Wang Xian-min (Vice Chief Engineer of the Chinese Manned Spaceflight Training Centre), Professor Wang Ye-juan (Vice Chief Engineer of the Beijing Aerospace Command and Control Centre) and Dr Wang Yu-sheng (Curator of the China Science and Technology Museum), to speak at the lectures."
During the science lectures on China's Development in Aerospace Technology, the experts will introduce the development of the Shenzhou Spaceflight Project and explain the structures and operations of the major systems of spacecrafts. The lectures will introduce the development of China's aerospace technology to students and provide opportunities for them to meet with the experts. This helps to arouse students' interest in studying science, raises their awareness of the nation's technological development and strengthens their sense of national identity.
The two lectures will be held at ELCHK Lutheran Secondary School at Yau Ma Tei. The target audiences are senior secondary students, teachers and academics. The first lecture will be at 9.15am ¡V 12.30pm and the second at 2.15pm - 5.30pm.
In the morning session, the aerospace experts will be invited to officiate at the prize presentation ceremony of the Essay Competition for Primary and Secondary Schools Students of Hong Kong. The theme of the competition is "The Launching of Shenzhou VI". On the same occasion, the guests will officially launch the "Space Dream ¡V History of Human Space Exploration" Roving Exhibition for schools which aims to further enhance students' understanding of the aerospace technology of China.
During the visit, the experts will visit some primary and secondary schools where they will meet parents, students and teachers and see for themselves science and technology education in Hong Kong.
