Seize the chance to apply for Beat Drugs Fund

The following is issued on behalf of the Secretariat of the Beat Drugs Fund Association:

     Do you have any good ideas to promote anti-drug messages, particularly among the young, and to promote community-wide efforts against drug abuse in Hong Kong?  Are you looking for funding to make things happen?

     If you answer yes, then you should not miss the chance to apply for grants from the Beat Drugs Fund.  Organisations and individuals are invited to file their applications on or before December 31 to carry out anti-drug projects that will begin after April, 2006.

     The Beat Drugs Fund Association will give priority consideration to the following projects in 2006-2007:

Preventive Education and Publicity
----------------------------------

(1) Projects promoting participation of youths;

(2) Projects targeting at adults;

(3) Parent education projects;

(4) Drug education projects based at the Hong Kong Jockey Club Drug InfoCentre.

Treatment and Rehabilitation
----------------------------

(1) Programme targeting psychotropic substance users (experimental and non-dependent regular users) not already on treatment, particularly, young working adults;

(2) Social re-integration programme to engage ex-drug addicts so that they stay abstinent and make improvements to their well-being;

(3) Initiatives to encourage partnership between Non-governmental Organisations and General Practitioners;

(4) Best practice for drug treatment and rehabilitation services.

Research
--------

(1) Longitudinal study on long-term effects of psychotropic substance abuse;

(2) Study on early intervention services for young drug abusers, with special emphasis on non-engaged youth;

(3) Study on harmful effects of poly-drug abuse;

(4) Study on cocaine abuse.

They are also available for collection at the Secretariat of the Beat Drugs Fund Association, 30/F High Block, and the Hong Kong Jockey Club Drug InfoCentre, Roof Floor, Low Block, Queensway Government Offices, 66 Queensway; all Public Enquiry Service Centres of the Home Affairs Department; and the District Social Welfare Offices of the Social Welfare Department.
