Announcement of Senior Appointments (with photos)

    The Government announced today (November 29) the following senior appointments:

     Mr Kwok Jing-keung, Deputy Director of Fire Services to succeed Mr Lam Chun-man as Director of Fire Services with effect from December 7, 2005. Mr Lam will proceed on pre-retirement leave on the same day.

     Mr Cheung Hau-wai, Deputy Director of Buildings to succeed Mr Marco Wu Moon-hoi as Director of Buildings with effect from December 9, 2005. Mr Wu will proceed on pre-retirement leave on the same day.

     Speaking on the two appointments, the Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Joseph W P Wong said he was confident that Mr Kwok and Mr Cheung, with proven leadership and administrative skills, as well as broad operational experience, would be able to lead the Fire Services Department and the Buildings Department respectively to face the challenges ahead and deliver high quality services to the public.

     Mr Wong also thanked Mr Lam  and Mr Wu for their dedicated and meritorious services during the past years and he wished them a happy retirement.

     Brief biographical notes on Mr Lam Chun-man, Mr Marco Wu Mon-hoi, Mr Kwok Jing-keung and Mr Cheung Hau-wai are set out below:

Mr Lam Chun-man, QFSM, CPM, JP

     Mr Lam is currently aged 57. He joined the Government as a Fire Officer Class III in April, 1968. He was promoted to Deputy Chief Fire Officer in March, 1992, to Chief Fire Officer in October, 1995, and to Deputy Director of Fire Services in January, 2001. He has been the Director of Fire Services since January, 2003.

     Mr Lam will proceed on pre-retirement leave with effect from December 7, 2005, after more than 37 years of service with the Government.

Mr Marco Wu Moon-hoi, JP

     Mr Wu is currently aged 58. He joined the Government as a Valuation Assistant in August, 1967 in the Rating and Valuation Department. He joined the Housing Department as a Senior Estate Surveyor in September, 1977. He was promoted to the rank of Chief Estate Surveyor in August, 1985, to Assistant Director of Housing in January, 1990, to Senior Assistant Director of Housing in April, 1994, and to Deputy Director of Housing in September, 1996. He joined the Buildings Department in March, 2003 and was promoted to Director of Buildings in September, 2003.

     Mr Wu will proceed on pre-retirement leave with effect from December 9, 2005, after more than 38 years of service with the Government.

Mr Kwok Jing-keung, FSDSM, JP

     Mr Kwok is currently aged 55. He joined the Government as an Assistant Station Officer in August, 1971. He was promoted to Deputy Chief Fire Officer in August, 1994, to Chief Fire Officer in September 1996, and to Deputy Director of Fire Services in January, 2003.

Mr Cheung Hau-wai, JP

     Mr Cheung is currently aged 57. He first joined the Government as a Temporary Surveying Assistant (Building) II in September, 1968. He was promoted to the rank of Chief Building Surveyor in December, 1983, to Government Building Surveyor in May, 1996 and to Deputy Director of Buildings in September, 2000.
