Well equipped with modern facilities, the Tai Kok Tsui Market will come into operation on Thursday (December 1). Located inside the Tai Kok Tsui Municipal Complex, 63 Fuk Tsun Street, Tai Kok Tsui, the three-storey market occupies a total floor area of 7,000 square metres. The comfortable environment will bring new shopping experiences to customers.
¡§Our new market is furnished with user-friendly and modern facilities. They will facilitate the daily operations of the stalls as well as create a convenient and comfortable shopping environment for the patrons,¡¨ a spokesman for the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department said today (November 28).
¡§The market is air-conditioned. The escalators at Fuk Tsun Street and Ivy Street entrances provide convenient access to various sections of the market for market goers.¡¨
To enhance environmental hygiene, all poultry stalls are operated separately from other stalls with dedicated access and ventilation systems. Each poultry stall has its own retail section, scalding room and live poultry section.
¡§The design will effectively minimise direct contact between customers and live poultry, to achieve ¡¥human-poultry segregation¡¦ and reduce the risk of contracting avian flu,¡¨ he said.
The fresh meat and fish stalls are also equipped with modern facilities.
¡§Each fresh meat stall is provided with a bench, retractable hanging rails for displaying fresh meat and a sink for cleansing.
¡§Fish stalls are equipped with full-length display trays fitted with large wash-up sinks. Anti-splash guards are installed to keep the common passageway dry.¡¨
On the ground and the first floors of the new market, more than 120 stalls offer a wide range of food and commodities including fish, meat, poultry, fruits, vegetables, flowers, newspapers and other household items. The second floor houses a cooked food centre with 12 stalls providing cuisine in a wide variety.
¡§To attract more customers to the new market, the Department will launch a three-day promotional activity - ¡¥Patron Reward for the Opening of Tai Kok Tsui Market¡¦. From December 1 to 3, market goers who sign to support will be offered a gift. The activity will be held on the ground floor of the market from 10am to 11am and from 3.30pm to 4.30pm,¡¨ the spokesman said.
¡§A series of promotional events for the new market are upcoming in the next few months. Public participation is welcome.¡¨
The Tai Kok Tsui Municipal Complex also accommodates a public library, an indoor games hall, a swimming pool and activity rooms managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
With the opening of the Tai Kok Tsui Market, the Tai Kok Tsui Temporary Market, the Boundary Street Market and the Tai Kok Tsui Temporary Cooked Food Hawker Bazaar will be closed at the end of business hours on Wednesday (November 30).
