The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government hosted a welcome dinner at Government House today (November 27) for the Delegation of Shenzhou-6 Manned Space Flight Mission.
The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, said at the dinner that the achievement of ¡§Shenzhou-6¡¨ was another milestone in the history of our country¡¦s space missions. The international community has renewed and upgraded their assessment of our country¡¦s overall standard of scientific technology and development prospects in the new century.
¡§The achievement makes Hong Kong people more proud of being Chinese and instils confidence into them about Hong Kong being Asia¡¦s World City and an important city of China,¡¨ he said.
Mr Tsang said that through the visit, Hong Kong people especially the younger generation will better understand our country¡¦s development in aerospace technology and the perseverance of astronauts. We also appreciated and respected them, he said.
Members of the delegation attending the dinner included the Head of the delegation and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of China¡¦s Manned Space Flight Program, Mr Hu Shixiang¡Fand astronauts Fei Junlong and Nie Haisheng. Other guests included SAR government officials, representatives of Central Government¡¦s organisations in Hong Kong and people from the political, business and other sectors of society.
The delegation, at the invitation of the Chief Executive, arrived in Hong Kong today for a three-day visit. Tomorrow, they will attend an academic forum, visit the Hong Kong Science Park , Hong Kong Disneyland and join the Hong Kong WinterFest.
