Statement by the Antiquities and Monuments Office

    In response to the reports by the Ming Pao and the South China Morning Post today (November 25) on the former Police Married Quarters, the Antiquities and Monuments Office clarifies as follows:

     The site of Hollywood Road former Police Married Quarters was formerly the school premises of the Central School which was the first government secondary school originally established in 1863 at Gough Street. Dr Sun Yat-sen was educated at the Gough Street premises of the Central School from 1884 to 1886. By the time the Central School moved from Gough Street to Hollywood Road in 1889, Dr Sun had already left and undertook his medical studies in Hong Kong College of Medicine for Chinese. Dr Sun did not attend the Hollywood Road premises of the Central School.
