In response to media enquiries, the Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH) spokesperson would like to provide the following information:
A female patient (aged 26) was admitted to PWH on 14 November presented with influenza-like symptoms and limb weakness. The patient was diagnosed as a suspected case of Guillain-Barre Syndrome. The patient showed obvious improvement after treatment and her condition is stable.
As the patient indicated that she had received influenza vaccination earlier in a private doctor's clinic, the case had been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection.
