CMC update on gastroenteritis cases

    In the Developmental Disabilities Unit (DDU) of Caritas Medical Centre (CMC) where there were child residents presenting with gastroenteritis symptoms, the hospital announced the following update today (November 23):

     Today, two more child residents (1 boy and 1 girl, aged 6 and 17) in the DDU presented with gastroenteritis symptoms. They were transferred to the isolation ward for further management. Their condition is stable.
 
     As at today (November 23), there are nine child residents (5 boys and 4 girls, aged 6 to 17) and one staff of the Lok Yan School presented with gastroenteritis symptoms. Five of them had negative results for norovirus. Other test results are pending.

     Infection control measures have been stepped up in DDU. Schooling of children in the 1/F of DDU has suspended. Visiting arrangements remain unchanged. All visitors and other child residents are under close surveillance. The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre of Health Protection.

     The DDU of CMC is a long term hostel for the severely mentally handicapped children.
