144 orchestras and bands participate in Youth Music Interflows

    A total of 144 orchestras and bands from local schools and community organisations will participate in the "2005 Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows" from December 4 to 18.

     The annual "Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows", organised by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, includes the Symphony Orchestra Contest, Symphonic Band Contest, String Orchestra Contest, and the Chinese Orchestra Contest.

     The Symphony Orchestra Contest will be held at the Concert Hall of Hong Kong Cultural Centre on December 4 (Sunday) in two sessions. Sixteen symphony orchestras from local schools and community organisations will join the contest.

     The Symphonic Band Contest with 47 participatory bands will be held at the Concert Hall of Hong Kong City Hall on December 10 (Saturday) and 11 (Sunday).

     There will also be a winners' finale for the Symphonic Band Contest at 7.30pm on December 11. The current "International Euphonium Player of the Year" David Childs and the Hong Kong Youth Symphonic Band will be guest performers.

     The String Orchestra Contest will be held at the Auditorium of Shatin Town Hall on December 17 (Saturday) in two sessions. Twenty-two orchestras will join the performance.

     Fifty-nine groups of contestants will join the Chinese Orchestra Contest at the Auditorium of Tsuen Wan Town Hall on December 17 (Saturday) and 18 (Sunday). The Dizi Principal of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Sun Youngzhi, and the Music Office Instructors¡¦ Chinese Ensemble will give guest performances in different sessions of the contest.

     Tickets priced at $20 are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price tickets are available to senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients.
