LCSD to present showcase of zheng music

    The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will present the "Chinese Regional Zheng Music Series", introducing various kinds of zheng music from different areas in China.

     The first programme of the series will be the "Zheng Music of Henan and Yanbian" concert. It will be held at 8pm on December 10 (Saturday) at the Theatre of the Hong Kong City Hall and on December 11 (Sunday) at the Cultural Activities Hall of Tuen Mun Town Hall.

     Henan zheng recitalists Cao Yong'an, Li Bian, Cao Yang and Chen Xiyao, together with Yanbian zheng (Kayagum) soloists Jin Lizi, Li Yingliang, Zhang Yange and Lian Meiyan, will showcase some zheng solo and ensemble works, including "Su Wu Misses Home", "Lamenting the Fate of Yan Hui", "Yeongcheon Arirang", "Weng-Hei-Ya".

     The series also includes "The Zheng Music of Guangdong Regions" (January, 2006) and "The Zhengs Music of Mongolia and Zhejiang" (March, 2006).

     Tickets priced at $90 and $150 for City Hall and $120 for Tuen Mun Town Hall are now available at URBTIX outlets, while senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients may have 50% off (limited quotas for students and CSSA recipients on a first-come, first-served basis). A 10% discount applies to Friends of LCSD performing venues. There will be a maximum of 15% off for a single purchase of different programmes in the series.      Also, an exhibition, "Arts of Zheng", is currently showing at the foyer, 2/F, Lower Block, Hong Kong City Hall until December 10. Admission is free.
