Committee on Performing Arts consultation starts today

The following is issued on behalf of the Committee on Performing Arts:

      The Committee on Performing Arts is inviting views on proposed changes in the areas of funding mechanisms, programme presentations and venue until January 16, 2006.

     The Committee on Performing Arts was established in November 2004 to advise the Secretary for Home Affairs on the provision of performing arts services.  

     The Committee is tasked to follow up on the Culture and Heritage Commission (CHC) policy recommendations related to performing arts.  Based on the policy direction put forward in the CHC Policy Recommendation Report, the Committee has proposed to introduce changes in areas of funding mechanisms, programme presentations and venue support.  

     Members of the Committee wish to consult stakeholders concerned before submitting their recommendations to the Secretary for Home Affairs.

     Copies of the consultation paper can be collected at the following venues:
Culture and Sport Division of Home Affairs Bureau
Major performing arts venues under the Leisure and Cultural Services Department
Hong Kong Arts Development Council
The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts
Hong Kong Arts Centre

     The consultation paper is also available at the web site of the Committee (www.hab.gov.hk/cpa).
