Notification of avian flu cases received

The Government was notified today (November 16) by the Chinese Ministry of Health confirming three human cases of avian flu H5N1, two in Hunan and one in Anhui.
A spokesman for the Department of Health said in view of the situation, temperature screening at Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau border crossings will be re-activated in phases within 48 hours.
He said the existing measures of broadcasting health messages and distribution of leaflets at border crossings would also be stepped up.
The Government will closely monitor the situation and put in place further
measures as and when necessary, he said.
