Regarding the male psychiatric ward in Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) in which there were patients presenting with influenza-like-illness and upper respiratory infection symptoms earlier, the hospital today (November 14) has the following updated announcement:

There was one more patient (aged 28) in that male psychiatric ward reported with upper respiratory infection symptom. The patient has been transferred to isolation ward for further management.  As from 29 October to today, there have been 12 patients (aged 23 to 56) in the male psychiatric ward presenting with upper respiratory infection symptoms.  Except the patient who is receiving treatment in the isolation ward, all the other 11 patients have been recovered. The test results of 10 of them were found positive to rhinovirus which is the common cause of cold.

All other patients in the ward concerned are under close surveillance and infection control measures have already been stepped up.

The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
