Six Immigration Officers today (November 13) left for the Republic of Korea to take part in an exchange study programme.
The six officers, Mr Joseph Chan Yun-cheong, Mr Cheung Kam-to, Mr Chung Shui-hing, Mr Ho Shui-chang, Mr Lee Chun-wan and Mr Wong Tak-fai met with the Director of Immigration, Mr Lai Tung-kwok, before their departure to attend a two-week exchange programme with the Korean Immigration authorities.
The objective of the programme is to share work experience and to strengthen the communication and co-operation between the two authorities in combating the use of forged documentation and illegal migration.
The six officers will visit the Headquarters of Korea's Ministry of Justice, Immigration Offices at Seoul, Chuncheon, Gosung and Sokcho Districts, as well as the Office of Immigration Policy Development in the Kimpo Airport and Immigration Office in the Incheon Airport.
They will also attend a week of seminars on Immigration Service affairs arranged by the Korean Immigration. The seminars will give the officers a better understanding of Korean immigration policy, intelligence work, anti-forgery measures and the development of the Korean Immigration Bureau.
Under the exchange programme, six officers from Korean Immigration attended an exchange study programme in Hong Kong hosted by the Immigration Department in August.
In his briefing before the officers' departure, Mr Lai said that due to the growing complexity of immigration work, members of the service needed to be more vigilant and alert.
He expected the study visit would enhance staff quality and provide a good opportunity for the officers to gain a better understanding of the work of overseas Immigration authorities.
