SCIT to attend APEC Ministerial Meeting in Busan

    The Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology, Mr John Tsang, will travel to Busan, Korea, on Sunday (November 13) to attend the 17th Ministerial Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) on November 15 and 16.

     Ministers will discuss the current status of negotiations at the World Trade Organization (WTO) and consider measures on how APEC can make a strong contribution to a successful Sixth Ministerial Conference of WTO. They will also exchange views on measures to enhance human security, and issues including trade and investment liberalisation and facilitation, economic and technical co-operation, and anti-corruption collaboration.

     While in Busan, Mr Tsang will hold bilateral meetings with ministers of the Republic of Korea and Vietnam. He will also take the opportunity to meet with the Director-General of WTO, Mr Pascal Lamy and Minister of Commerce of the Mainland, Mr Bo Xilai.

     Mr Tsang will also attend APEC CEO Summit on November 17 at which President Hu Jintao will give a keynote speech.

    Mr Tsang will return to Hong Kong on November 20.
