MPFA recovers MPF non-payment for seven employees

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (November 10) pursued three claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $100,000 on behalf of seven employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers. In the District Court, two employers were ordered to pay a total of some $270,000 for ten employees today, who were owed MPF contributions by the employers.

     At today's hearing, the defendant, Fung Kit Ling trading as Imagin Entertainment Work Shop did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered her to pay the MPFA the sum of $18,336.71, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other two defendants, including Yiu Wai Engineering Company Limited and Asson Computing Education Center Limited, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $41,708.09 and $40,282.62 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The court further awarded payments of $120, $270 and $260 as costs in respect of the claims.

     Meanwhile, the District Court today issued judgments against two employers, namely, Wong Hang Ching trading as Kai Ying Industrial Company and Posig Shoe Company Limited. The defendants were ordered to pay the MPFA the sums of $173,493.78 and $101,097.58 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to six and four employees of the defendants.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The court further ordered each defendant to pay $930 as the cost of the claim.
