Five employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (November 9) pursued five claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $110,000 on behalf of seven employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At today's hearing, the defendants, Mueller Contact Lens Institute Ltd. and Go Yut Ying trading as Ming Kee Noodle Shop did not dispute the amounts claimed.  The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $37,165.04 and 3,724.41 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other three defendants - Well Dragon Holdings Limited trading as Hop Hing Motors, Fine Projects Limited and Smart Trading (Hung Kee) Limited - did not appear at today's hearing.  In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $30,771.01, $29,137.50 and $7,528.81 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The court further awarded payment of $370, $60, $130, $110 and $190 as costs in respect of the claims.
