The Government announced today (November 7) that the Executive Council (ExCo) has approved a Private Treaty Grant (PTG) of land at nominal premium of $1,000 for Heung Yee Kuk (HYK) to construct a new premises in Sha Tin.
The land grant was approved under the established government policy, which allows PTG of land to non-profit-making community organizations pursuing functions and activities conducive to the promotion of Government policies.
Under the HYK Ordinance, HYK is a statutory and non-profit-making body responsible for promoting co-operation among New Territories (NT) residents, preserving culture and traditions, advising the Government on social and economic developments relating to the NT, and fostering understanding between the Government and NT residents. The PTG will enable HYK to carry out its statutory functions more efficiently.
HYKˇ¦s new premises will house, among other things, a meeting hall, a library, an exhibition hall, and other ancillary facilities. To foster better understanding of the NT culture and heritage, HYK will open some of the facilities for public display of exhibits and documents relating to the history and development of the NT. HYK plans to open over 60% of the area in the new premises to the public.
