OGCIO to participate in Pan-PRD Directors of Information
Industry meeting
*********************************************************

The Deputy Government Chief Information Officer (Operation), Mr Stephen Mak, will represent Hong Kong at the 5th Pan-Pearl River Delta (PRD) Directors of Information Industry meeting to be held in Guilin tomorrow (October 26).

During the meeting, Mr Mak and his counterparts from other Pan-PRD provinces/regions will share their experiences in informatisation and explore regional co-operation opportunities.

Mr Mak will brief participants on the new strategy for the delivery of the e-government services. Under the new strategy, the Government will launch a new one-stop access portal (OSP) to serve as a main gateway to online government information and services. Adopting a citizen-centric approach, the OSP will group related government information and services into different service clusters based around the needs and preferences of our citizens and businesses. Mr Mak will also highlight the recent developments in Hong Kong's e-commerce, electronic trading and digital entertainment initiatives.

The Directors of Information Industry of the nine Pan-PRD provinces (Fujian, Guangdong, Jiangxi, Hunan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunan, Guangxi and Hainan) and two Special Administrative Regions (Hong Kong and Macau), meet twice a year under the Pan-PRD Directors of Information Industry co-operation mechanism.

The meetings provide an exchange platform for the provinces/regions to strengthen their communication on the development of informatisation and information technology industry so as to foster closer co-operation.
