Police are investigating the death of a newborn baby boy whose body was found inside a refuse collection room of a building in Sham Shui Po last (October 21) night.
Shortly after 9 pm, Police received a report from the staff of the Caritas Medical Centre (CMC) that a 25-year-old Indonesian female patient claimed to have given birth to a baby boy inside the toilet of a flat in Lai Lan House of Lai Kok Estate earlier that afternoon and had disposed him afterwards.
Wrapped by a towel, a newborn baby boy with umbilical cord was later found in a plastic bag at a refuse collection room of the building. A placenta was also found inside the bag.
The baby boy was rushed to CMC and was later certified dead at 10.25 pm.
Meanwhile, the woman was later transferred to the Princess Margaret Hospital for treatment and was arrested for concealing the birth of child.
Initial post-mortem was conducted today (October 22) but the cause of death could not be established pending further examinations.
Investigations by District Crime Squad of Sham Shui Po are proceeding.
