The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (October 13) pursued three claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $52,000 on behalf of three employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
The three defendants, including Wonder World Engineering Limited, Wide Best Holdings Limited trading as Sushi An and Tanyo Catering Limited trading as Jade Butterfly Restaurant, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $46,156.82, $5,211.79 and $778.05 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The court further awarded payments of $450, $100 and $70 as costs in respect of the claims.
