Caritas Medical Centre update of fever cases

    In the Developmental Disabilities Unit (DDU) of Caritas Medical Centre (CMC) where there were child residents presenting with fever and upper respiratory symptoms yesterday, the hospital made the following announcement today (October 13):

     Today, another two girls (aged 6 and 15) in the DDU presented with fever and upper respiratory symptoms. They were transferred to the isolation ward for further management. Their condition is stable.
 
     As at today (October 13), there are six child residents (two boys and four girls, aged 6 to 15) presented with fever and upper respiratory symptoms. Appropriate tests have been conducted and the results are pending.

     CMC Infection Control Team has reported the cases to the Hospital Authority and the Centre of Health Protection. Infection control measures have been stepped up in DDU. Schooling of children in the West Wing of DDU has been suspended. Visiting arrangements remain unchanged. All other child residents are under close surveillance.

     The DDU of CMC is a long term hostel for the severely mentally handicapped children.
