The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (October 12) pursued one claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $10,000 on behalf of one employee, who was owed MPF contributions by his employer.
At today's hearing, the defendant, New Chinese Medicine (HK) Limited, did not appear at today's hearing. In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $10,685.02, being mandatory contribution in arrears and surcharge payable.
The amount awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as it is received by the MPFA. The court further awarded payment of $340 as the cost of the claim.
New Chinese Medicine (HK) Limited pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistracy earlier to 14 counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time, and was fined $19,600.
