***************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Executive Council Secretariat:

Following is the transcript (English portion) of a meet-the-media session by Executive Council members, Mr Leung Chun-ying, Mr Cheng Yiu-tong, Mr Andrew Liao and Mrs Laura Cha, on the Policy Address this afternoon  (October 12).

Reporter: Can you repeat in English?

Mr Leung : The non-official members of the Executive Council fully support the three areas outlined by the Chief Executive in his Policy Address this morning, namely strengthening governance, building a harmonious society and developing economy of Hong Kong. We also support the policy initiatives under the three areas. I would also like to repeat the call by the Chief Executive at the end of his Policy Address: HK people to stand together, to unite together and to grasp the opportunities that are available to us to build a better tomorrow.

Reporter: (inaudible)

Mr Leung: The Executive Council continues to discharge its duties as required by the Basic Law. What the Chief Executive outlined this morning was expanding the non-official membership of the Executive Council. I, and on behalf of all my non-official colleagues, welcome the addition of new members. I am sure that the wealth of experience and dedication of our new colleagues, and the division of work among members of the Executive Council will serve the Hong Kong society better, as required of us by the Basic Law.

Reporter : (about new members)

Mr Leung : It is a matter for the Chief Executive to announce.

(Please also refer to the Chinese portion of the transcript.)
