Police are investigating a traffic accident in which a 23-year-old woman was killed and a 20-year-old man was injured in Eastern Harbour Tunnel this (October 12) morning.
At about 8.35 am, a private car followed by a motorcycle were travelling on the right lane inside the Eastern Harbour Tunnel towards Hong Kong. The motorcycle reportedly ran out of control and crashed against the rear part of the private car. After the impact, both the motorcyclist and the passenger fell on the ground. The passenger was then hit by a medium goods vehicle travelling on the left lane from behind.
Sustaining serious injuries, the 23-year-old female motorcycle passenger was certified dead at scene by the ambulancemen.
The 20-year-old male motorcyclist was injured and was sent to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital for treatment.
Investigations by Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Hong Kong Island are proceeding.
