Fruitful exchange in Fuzhou for Hong Kong Financial Services

    A delegation of more than 70 representatives from Hong Kong financial services sector, led by the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Mr Frederick Ma, today (September 29) continued its second-day visit in Fuzhou.

     The delegation took part in a presentation jointly organised by the Hong Kong and Fujian provincial governments to enhance cooperation between Hong Kong financial sector and the Fujian enterprises, during which the delegates learnt about the provinceˇ¦s latest economic situation, infrastructural development, major investment projects, and business opportunities presented by enterprises seeking to be listed in HK or of growth potential. Representatives from the Hong Kong Exchange also took the chance to outline the advantages and requirements of getting listed in Hong Kongˇ¦s stock market. More than 200 representatives from both the Fujian government and some 60 Fujian enterprises had participated.

     In the afternoon, the delegates visited a number of enterprises, including a car-manufacturing company, a supermarket chain store, the Fuzhou Software Park and a communications equipment firm, to obtain first hand information about the development potential of various industries.      

     Hosting a Hong Kong Dinner tonight, Mr Ma noted that the visit by more than 70 top echelon from the Hong Kong financial sector and the related professional field would lead to a better understanding of the provinceˇ¦s latest development and investment opportunities. Mr Ma also expressed his gratitude to the Fujian government and related organisations for their great support towards this visit and hospitality. He hoped that by building on the existing good relationship, Hong Kong and Fujian would continue to explore more opportunities and channels for economic cooperation and further development.

     The delegation comprises leading figures of the banking sector, venture capital investment funds, chambers of commerce, securities industry, and accounting and legal professions. The visit is the first financial services delegation under the Pan-Pearl River Delta Regional Co-operation Framework (9+2). They were warmly welcome by the Secretary of CPC Fujian Provincial Committee, Mr Lu Zhangong, and the Governor of Fujian Province, Mr Huang Xiaojing, upon arrival in Fuzhou last evening.

     The delegation will move on to its third-day program in Xiamen tomorrow and return to Hong Kong at night.
