Announcement of senior appointments (with photos)

The Government announced today (September 28) the following senior appointments:

     Mr Wong Chee Keung, Principal Government Engineer, will take up the post of Director of Drainage Services with effect from Sunday (October 2). He succeeds Mr Cheung Tat Kwing who commenced pre-retirement leave on February 21.  

     Mr Chai Sung Veng, Principal Government Engineer, will succeed Mr Tsao Tak Kiang as Director of Civil Engineering and Development with effect from Sunday when Mr Tsao proceeds on pre-retirement leave.  

     Commenting on the appointments, the Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Joseph WP Wong, said: "I am confident that Mr Wong Chee Keung and Mr Chai Sung Veng, with their proven leadership, professional competence and administrative skills, as well as broad experience, will be able to lead the Drainage Services Department and Civil Engineering and Development Department respectively to face the challenges ahead and deliver high quality services to the public."  

     Mr Wong also thanked Mr Cheung Tat Kwing and Mr Tsao Tak Kiang for their dedicated and meritorious service during the past years and wished them a happy retirement.  

     Brief biographical notes on Mr Cheung Tat Kwing, Mr Tsao Tak Kiang, Mr Wong Chee Keung and Mr Chai Sung Veng are appended below:

Mr Cheung Tat Kwing, JP

     Mr Cheung, aged 55, first joined the Government as an Engineer in August 1977. He was promoted to the rank of Chief Engineer in August 1994, to Government Engineer in May 1997, to Principal Government Engineer in June 2000, and to Director of Drainage Services in December 2002.  

     Mr Cheung commenced his pre-retirement leave on February 21, after more than 27 years of service with the Government.  

Mr Tsao Tak Kiang, JP

     Mr Tsao, aged 59, first joined the Government as an Apprentice Engineer in September 1969. He was promoted to the rank of Chief Engineer in August 1994, to Government Engineer in June 1998, to Principal Government Engineer in August 2001, and to Director of Civil Engineering in June 2003. He has been the Director of Civil Engineering and Development since July 1 last year.  

     Mr Tsao will proceed on pre-retirement leave on Sunday after more than 36 years of service with the Government.  

Mr Wong Chee Keung, JP

     Aged 57, Mr Wong first joined the Government as an Apprentice Engineer in August 1971. He was promoted to the rank of Chief Engineer in January 1992, to Government Engineer in October 1995 and to Principal Government Engineer in August 2001. He is currently the Deputy Director of Highways.

Mr Chai Sung Veng, JP

     Aged 54, Mr Chai first joined the Government as an Engineer in October 1978. He was promoted to the rank of Chief Engineer in November 1995, to Government Engineer in October 1998 and to Principal Government Engineer in August 2001. He is currently the Deputy Director of Civil Engineering and Development.
