CE and Legco Members on two-day visit to Pearl River Delta
**********************************************************

Chief Executive Mr Donald Tsang and Members of the Legislative Council (Legco) will leave on a two-day visit to the Pearl River Delta on Sunday (September 25).

Mr Tsang invited all Legislative Councillors to take part in the trip - the first time all the Members have been asked to visit the Mainland as a group.

The leader of the group will be the Chief Executive, and the co-leader will be Legco President Mrs Rita Fan.  Also in the visiting group are the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Mr Frederick Ma, and the Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology, Mr John Tsang.

They will visit Shenzhen, Dongguan, Guangzhou and Zhongshan in Guangdong Province, meeting local officials and touring socio-economic, industrial and infrastructural facilities.

Guangdong Provincial Government leaders will meet the Legislative Councillors and brief them on the latest developments in the province.

Mr Tsang said that the people of Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta had always been close. Now with increasing globalisation, the two places will be even closer. It was necessary to visit the Pearl River Delta in order to gain firsthand understanding of the region.

"This will surely be beneficial for us to deliberate over the future co-operation between Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta as well as the various issues that Hong Kong faces," Mr Tsang said.

Mr Tsang described the visit as the first step in a long journey. "I hope this step will be a steady one and a successful one in order for us to explore a wider vision for the future," he said.

Mr Tsang expressed his gratitude to the Central authorities for their support as well as the leaders of the Guangdong Provincial Government and the four cities for their close involvement and meticulous arrangements in organising the visit.

The group will begin the trip with a ride on the Metro and a visit to the Hi-tech Industrial Park in Shenzhen on Sunday morning. The visitors will then attend a luncheon at Wuzhou Guest House hosted by the Shenzhen Municipal Government.

Next they will visit the Dongguan Exhibition Centre and the SAE Magnetics Dongguan Nancheng Plant. On arrival in Guangzhou, they will have a meeting with Guangdong Provincial Government leaders and attend a dinner at the White Swan Hotel in Guangzhou before taking a cruise on the Zhujiang (Pearl River).

On Monday (September 26), the group will visit the Guangzhou Honda Automobile Company, the Guangzhou Science City, University City and library at the Sun Yat-sen University and later a community centre in Zhongshan.  They return to Hong Kong in the evening.
