All requests for assistance from Hong Kong residents in relation to Hurricane Katrina, which hit the southern coastal area of the United States, have now been settled.
The Immigration Department received three requests for assistance from Hong Kong residents relating to unsuccessful attempts to contact family members or friends in the affected area.
Through the close liaison of the Immigration Department and the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and with the assistance of the Chinese Embassy in the US, which deployed personnel to locate the family members and friends, all these cases have been settled as of today (September 9).
The Government has received no reports of casualties involving Hong Kong residents.
