Men fined for operating and managing unlicensed karaoke
establishment
********************************************************

One man was fined $2,500 and a second man fined $1,500  at the Tuen Mun Magistrates' Courts today (September 9) after pleading guilty to operating and managing an unlicensed karaoke establishment in Tuen Mun.

The court heard that officers of the Home Affairs Department's Office of the Licensing Authority (OLA) inspected shops in a shopping arcade on Tuen Shing Street, Tuen Mun in February this year and found audio-visual and other devices for karaoke activity. Some customers were found singing karaoke on the premises.

The two men later admitted that the karaoke establishment was in operation without holding a valid permit or licence. They were subsequently charged under the Karaoke Establishments Ordinance for operating and managing unlicensed karaoke establishment.

An HAD spokesman said it was a criminal offence to operate or manage an unlicensed karaoke establishment.

He stressed that illegal karaoke establishments would not be tolerated and enforcement action would continue to be taken against them to ensure the safety of patrons of these establishments.

He also urged people to report unlicensed karaoke establishments to the OLA on 2881 7498.
